OUR TEAM:

Our team consists of a gynaecologist ,medical specialists ,a paediatrician ,a public health specialist, a nutritionist, ,nurses, and a team of volunteers. The President is present in all camps and she gives personal advice to every woman and girl she sees.
The Volunteers are not directly related to this profession, however they come from diverse backgrounds and careers and include members from all ages , from the elderly to teenagers and everyone in between. Team members ususally have meetings and brief ups before their camps and lectures. The volunteers are instructed by those specialised staff members on how to go about their work on the camps. The GWHI staff comprises of a team of friendly, diligent workers, dedicated to their work, their country and the poor. The camps sites they visit is like a third world because of lack of facilities, no health care and complete ignorance.

INTERNATIONAL TEAM MEMBERS:

GWHI encourages people to participate towards eradicating ill health and mistratment of the masses and thus accepts and appreciates volunteers from other countries and nationalities. GWHI believes that such issues are crucial to be addressed by every individual no matter where they live or come from. Recently an Australian breast cancer expert Beth Trevan  joined the GWHI team and shared her valuable insight with alot of women and girls.

Help us make Pakistan a better place by providing its women and girls 'Wellness with Dignity'. Thanks

OUR CAMPS:

The women and girls who visit our camps are from all age groups- from the elderly to the middle aged, to the young and to teenagers; usually between 13-80 years. The women and the girls always bring their children along for free medical checkups.

The areas which the GWHI staff visits usually consists of malnutritioned, extremely poor, weak and working women who have various relationship status, some are divorced, some widowed, some single and all of them have to shoulder the responsibility of a house that consits on an average 6 members. Sometimes their male family members like their husbands, fathers, brothers and sons pool in towards the contribution of the household expenses, but usually most of these women have husbands who are drug addicts; who physically or mentally abuse them; who dont work at all. Thus most of the women we see are battered, they are not motivated and do not have a comfort lifestyle.

Prior to the medical check ups and the distribution of medicine and collection of data, there is a group session conducted on safe drinking  water, washing/sanitation,diarrhea and malaria protection. Reason being, the President believes that basic hygeneic values must be explained in detail to all the women and girls so that their entire  families  benefits from a healthier  lifestyle.

There are  11 different stations where women move in a sequence after having registered with a specific ID .There is a collection of demmographic data which we keep in our database. Moreover their nutrition , contraceptive , social , emotional wellness is recorded via a standard questionnaire.

The volunteers check  weight, calculate  BMIsand  blood sugar is tested . Instant Complete Blood Count, blood group are done. All attending are given Blood Group  cards to keep and finally  a thorough gynaecological history is taken.

All girls and women then are spoken to by the President and relevant medication is given along with supplementation. Which comprises usually iron , calcium and folic acid supplies to cover 3 months. All children also have their data registered and then get examined by a paediatrician.

GWHI is proud to announce that over 15000 women and 14000 children attended our free medical camps during the past year although we had very limited funds and very few volunteers.

We look forward to your joining us soon !

HOW GWHI CHANGED MY LIFE ?   ------------   FROM A VOLUNTEER !

I had been living in a bubble for just so long. Most of us are oblivious to the conditions of the poor public and that makes us realise how much we can do for those who dont have anything at all. When i visited the camps in the slums of lahore, I realised that there was a different world out there, beyond my own and that there is so much that needs to be done.

Our basic problem is ignorance, I have seen young women who dont believe in taking contraceptives and to avoid conceiving they get their uterus removed !!

These women and grils are gripped in extreme poverty that they cannot even afford to have a glass of milk a day! The best thing that GWHI has done for me is that it has made me a better person in the sense that I thank God now for whatever I have and I dont fret about what I dont have. It has taught me to look at those who dont have anything at all and to be grateful to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for His countless favours. When I met Beth, I really liked her becasue she said that all this volunteering does for you is that even if it doesnt change the life of any one person out there, it changes you.

The places where we went for camps, the people who let us use their houses were extermely kind and generous. Those people made me realise that Pakistani hospitality overcomes all poverty. All the experience made me love my country and taught me that there was a world out there beyond five star hotels and designer bags- that life is precious and you should give everyone something even if you dont have anything youself, just a 'smile' suffices.

GWHI is an amazing organization, it is like my family now, all the volunteers, and the President. I pray that we all realise our purpose in life and help those who dont have anything.

I ask you to please come forward to volunteer for this good cause.

Come forward and help us fulfill our mission of nurturing women's and girls’ wellness.

If you cannot volunteer,  please donate, or simply share your valuable ideas at  this email: gwhi.staff@gmail.com , thanks
